As little as 10 years ago, not many Pakistan natives had heard of or even knew what Reiki is. There are still not many Pakistanis familiar with this technique but those who are, use it to heal. Reiki is created from 2 Japanese words; Rei, meaning God’s Wisdom and Ki, meaning life energy. Basically, it’s a life force energy that is spiritually guided.
Fortunately, Reiki is not viewed as a religion, and therefore requires no specific religious beliefs to learn and use it. Actually, Reiki works whether you believe in the process or not. However, it’s a Divine energy that allows many who practice it to more closely experience their individual religions.
This may be why it has gained acceptance in Pakistan. According to two different Muslim scholars, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty and Sheikh Muhammed Iqbal Nadvi, the healing afforded by Reiki can be incorporated into any religion. Both of these men have addressed questions as to whether or not Reiki is appropriate to be used among Muslims.
They both agree that as long as the treatment doesn’t involve procedures that are not acceptable in Islam, and as long as there’s no assumption that anyone other than Allah will be invoked for the healing, then Reiki is not objectionable to that belief.
Reiki is practiced by following the Prophet’s teaching that anyone who can help another should do so without hesitating. So if Reiki is beneficial, a Muslim should never hesitate to use it if it means helping someone in need.
